Descartes debates

Forthcoming debates at Descartes

The third series of Descartes debates organized this year by the « Savoir et culture » [Knowledge and Culture] committee from Paris Descartes University, in association with Sciences Humaines magazine will be entitled “Inheritance”.

The purpose of this series is two-fold. First, it will provide an opportunity for people to share their views on various disciplines. Second, it will allow participants to better understand the limits of contemporary societies seen as “individualistic” as inheritance, of any kind, should not be an issue for individuals who do not have any roots.  There is some tension, however, between the social imperative of discovering one’s true self and one’s need for roots (either through inheritance, or genealogical history, or DNA research, or by claiming one’s belonging to any given community…).

The Descartes debates will take place in the “Grand Amphithéâtre” of Paris Descartes University
