René Descartes (1596 - 1650)

René Descartes was born in Touraine, and studied with the Jesuits of La Flèche.

One night, as he was in the army, three dreams were to change his life drastically because they made him apprehend the “foundation of an admirable science” (fondements d’une science admirable) which he then endeavoured to explicit throughout his life. He was a mathematician and a physicist, a metaphysician and a moralist; he was the philosopher who initiated the great adventure of modern thinking.
