Strategy 2010-2013
Paris Descartes University’s strategy is structured around our priority objectives for training, research and valorization, as defined in the University’s four-year contract
Scientific Priorities
In terms of training and/or research contents, priority is given to our internationally recognized inter- and multi-disciplinary excellence projects on:
- Adolescence,
- Biomathematics, modelling and systemic biology,
- Ethics, Law, Health,
- Reproduction and neonatal care,
- Sociology of the contemporary world,
- Signal processing, imagery,
- Transmitting, Learning, Knowing,
- Aging, senescence and disability.
Geographic priorities
In terms of geographic priorities, in addition to partaking in the construction of the European Higher Education and Research Area through, among others, Erasmus interuniversity exchange programs, special emphasis is made on the cooperation with five countries:
- Allemagne

Current situation:
- Main partnership with Charité Universitädmedizin / Freie Universität / Humboldt Universität in Berlin and the Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris (APHP): program of cooperation in medical training and research
- Dresden University of Technology and Eichstätt-Ingolstadt Catholic University, members of the “European Sociology Degree” (ESD) academic program
- Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität (Bonn), member of the interuniversity consortium on “Imagination and Daily Life”
- About thirty interuniversity agreements concerning Erasmus exchange students: incoming and outgoing students: about thirty / year, excluding medical internships
- About fifteen German students registered in M and in D, 2/3 of them in Human and Social Sciences.
Projects, Objectives :
- Applying to Dental Surgery and Pharmaceutical Sciences the terms of the agreement currently working with Medicine
- Devising the Franco-German University (FGU or, in French, UFA) integrated curricula, especially in Law/Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Biology
- Developing the appeal of Paris Descartes University at the M and D levels in the fields of Human and Social Sciences and Health
- Balancing the Erasmus incoming student mobility.
- Brazil

Current situation :
- Numerous framework agreements and specific conventions with the major Brazilian universities
- International Associated Laboratory IMMUNO with the CNRS and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ)
- Student appeal factor: around forty Brazilian students registered in M and D, half of them in Human and Social Sciences.
Projects, Objectives :
- Participating further to Franco- and Euro-Brazilian calls for tenders or proposals as well as to the Franco-Brazilian Doctoral College
- Reinforcing the research partnership between Brazil, CNRS, INSERM and Institut Pasteur
- Creation of an Erasmus Mundus program with Brazil and more generally with Latin America in Human and Social Sciences.

Current situation :
- Numerous framework agreements and specific conventions
- Member of the student exchange program of the Conférence des Recteurs et des Principaux des Universités du Québec (CREPUQ)
- Student attractivity: around twelve Canadian students registered in M and D, ¾ of them in Human and Social Sciences
- Incoming and outgoing students: about fifty / year (in each direction), excluding medical internships
Projects, Objectives :
- Participating further in Franco-Canadian calls for tenders or propositions
- Creating an M program in the biology of ageing with Montréal University Faculty of Medicine
- Elaborating a partnership with Mac Gill University in the field of training and research in Heath.
- China

Current situation :
- Framework agreements and specific conventions in Health, Human and Social Sciences
- 115 Chinese students registered in M and D, mainly in Human and Social Sciences, Law / Economics / Management and Sciences / Technologies / Health
- 25 students registered in the University Diploma “French and speciality languages”.
Projects, Objectives :
- Professional doctoral training with Canton’s Centre for Cross-Cultural Research, in collaboration with the Universities Guangwai, Zhejiang and Harbin
- Master’s degree in “Chinese Law”
- Partnership Medical Ethics Laboratory / University of traditional medicine (Shanghai)
- Master’s degree in “Emergency care and catastrophe medicine” with Capital Medical University (Beijing).
- Russia

Current situation :
- Occasional lectures (Languages/Literature, Law, Sociology) at the Collèges Universitaires Français in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg
- Around thirty Russian students registered in M and D, exclusively in Human and Social Sciences and in Law.
Projects, Objectives :
- Partnership in international management with the National University of Economics and Finances (Saint-Petersburg)
- Training and research program with the CNRS around the axis care/medicine/medicaments.
Working priorities
Paris Descartes University is prioritizing:
- Developing student appeal at both M and D levels though research-based degree projects,
- Balancing outgoing with incoming mobility, favoring the latter,
- Developing current academic and scientific networks by reinforcing targeted partnerships based on existing double - or multiple degrees and on co-supervisions of international PhDs .
This falls under the general policy of pooling European and international actions, currently under way within the Pôle de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur (PRES) Sorbonne Paris Cité , of which Paris Descartes University is a founding member.
